Looking for a Career change?

The only person who knows what you want in your career is YOU. If you want to make changes in your life, including your career, you must have a concrete understanding of where you are right now. In this video, I have also discussed four ways to get from where you are to where you want to be, in your career.

Here are the four methods listed below to achieving a successful career change:

1. What can you do or skills you have now that people are willing to pay for?

2. What do you know (specific subject matter) that the marketplace find very valuable?
In recent years, the rise of the social media managers and content blog writers became increasingly valuable with the rapidly growing industry of content creators of videos, podcasts, blogs, self-published authors. The business and technologically advanced climate now brings tremendous value to those industries. So, keep this example in mind when you are thinking and writing your response to this question.

3. Write down the responses to questions 1 & 2? Write at least 5 responses to each one. (Just do it!)

4. Use the info you wrote down in question 3 to formulate a new “career change” resume.

How to prepare for two types of Job Interviews

Ahh….the job interview… How many of us lost our nerve trying to figure out the strange nuances of job interview success. I know I did when I was younger! Before I gained insight and experience in the human resources field, I didn’t even think to ask about the type of interview, much less know what to do in them. I’m glad you get to benefit from my human resources experience. There are several types of job interviews conducted in today’s technologically savvy environment, such as direct panel interviews, telephonic panel interviews, video-based panel interviews, one-on-one direct interviews, instant messenger-type interviews and conference call interviews. The two types of interviews discussed in the video will be direct panel interviews and video-based interviews.

1. If you are not familiar with any of these interviews, let me take the time to expound them. The Direct Panel Interview usually take place at the corporate location where most, if not all the members of the panel will be working. The panel will be comprised of members of the organization working with you or your department directly or indirectly at various levels. You should expect all the members of the panel to ask you key questions regarding the job and your duties, along with your current and previous career experience. 2. The Video-Based Interview can also be a panel interview or just one-on-one with an interviewer, it depends on the company. In either case, you will most likely have a link sent to you via email to attend the interview where you may get to see the interview through the computer or tablet and they have the ability to see you as well. Keep in mind, just because the interview is remote, please do not take it lightly. Please dress professionally, just as you would for a direct, in-person interviews. It is extremely important you establish yourself as a professional, even through video.

Don’t do these three things on your resume, if you want the job

As you know, we talk about several issues with resumes that human resources professionals have seen as common hinderances. Some of these things can literally bar you from obtaining the career opportunities you want, so do your best not to make these mistakes or misuse your resume in these three ways:

1. Misspelled words or grammatical errors
This mistake can happen to the best of us, but it can be avoided by simply using the spell check feature on your work processing system and reviewing your #resumes thoroughly. 2. Placing dishonest information on your resume.
This misuse of your resume speaks to your lack of integrity, if you have ever considered lying on your resume. My advise….DON’T DO IT! It will come back to haunt you in unexpected ways.

3. Using the resume not specifically match targeted to position or industry you are applying.

Two Interview mistakes to AVOID…if you want the job

Whether you are just starting out in your career or a seasoned professional, mistakes are bound to happen. You do your best in every professional interaction, but we are all human at the end of the day. There are some mistake that you should do your best to avoid, especially when it comes to job interviews. It can truly be a nerve wrenching experience…but it helps to be truly be prepared. If you don’t take the time to prepare for your next job interview, you can make these critical mistakes I talk about in the video. So let’s address the mistakes to AVOID:

Mistake #1: Not knowing anything about the company you are #interviewing for.
In the wonderful era of technology, there’s no excuse for this mistake, unless you did not even try to prepare for this interview.

Mistake #2: Having your mobile phone powered on with the ringer turned on. Your mobile phone is a distraction. Leave it in the car!

Just graduated? Two ways to you can win in your career

1. You should have a complete professional portfolio to house all of your career tools, such as your resumes, cover letters, letters of recommendation, award certificates and other pertinent documentation. If you do not have a professional portfolio, check out these two options below:

Please look into obtaining one of these portfolio, so you can stand out from the rest of the job candidates more professional, instead of showing up to an job interview with a manila folder.

I truly admire dynamic speakers like “Tony Robbins” that found revolutionary ways to transform their lives from devastating circumstances to rockstar inspiration. Yes, can’t you tell, I’m a FAN :). In this video, I talk about three questions you need to ask yourself to move from stagnation to productivity, in your career and your life. Here they are…

Question 1: Who do you spend your MOST of your time with? Are they positive? Negative?

Question 2: What do you spend MOST of your FREE time doing?

Question 3: Are you spending time #takingmassiveaction on your goals and dreams with people that are supportive?

Don’t think you need a resume?

There have been times where I don’t want to be bothered with resumes, cover letters and all the other career tools because it seems like a chore….

Well, let’s consider this scenario for a moment. If you were a real estate broker attending a networking event where at least 60% of the people there stated on their attendance card, they are looking to buy or sell their current primary residence. As you “work the room” with some of these people, the conversations leads to them asking you what you do for a living and you say, I’m a real estate broker. At least five of the ten people you have spoken with in that event expressed a very strong interest in conducting real estate transactions.

Hmmm…Stop and think for a minute, do you think you are in the right place at the right time as a real estate broker? Let me ask you another question, do you want to be in that networking event without your business card and a way to obtain their contact information? You see where I’m going here. The moral of the story is….have your career tools ready for business, to cultivate promising business and #career opportunities.

Just like this story of you being the real estate broker, you do not want to hear about career opportunities and not take full advantage of them. Granted, you can garner career opportunities without career tools, but you always put yourself in a better position, when you have your career tools ready to work for you.

Two Interview questions you need to ask, if you want the job…

Every #jobinterview is different but you must prepare thoroughly for each one. Both you and the interviewer should be asking questions to decipher if you are a fit for their organization or is their organization a professional fit for you. The only way for you to know this is by asking key questions in the interview.

Are your career tools working for you?

Let’s be honest, if you’ve been working in the same position for a while, chances are, you have not updated your resumes. In this video, I talk about one of my clients looking make some career changes and ran into this problem. Her career tools had not been updated in at least five years, which was the length of time she has been on truck driving career path. I was able to help her by her using this resource here.

Once she her #careertools got the professional overhaul it needed, she not only applied but got the job she was looking for as part of her #career transition process….YAY!!! I’m grateful to have helped her in this process of transition.
