What type of interviewer are you?

How do represent yourself in an interview can truly make or break your chances of landing the career opportunity or getting lost in the shuffle with the other candidates that didn’t get hired. How do you make sure you positively stand out from the other candidates?

You kill the competition by being interested in the people interviewing you, showing interest in the company’s direction and how your skills fit into that vision. Do your best to establish a fruitful relationship while listening to them respond to your questions.

Two Interview questions you need to ask, if you want the job…

Every #jobinterview is different but you must prepare thoroughly for each one. Both you and the interviewer should be asking questions to decipher if you are a fit for their organization or is their organization a professional fit for you. The only way for you to know this is by asking key questions in the interview.

I talk about 2 of at least 15 questions specified in my self-directed #interview prep resource, which you can find here.

6 Before your next job interview – AVOID doing these 6 things

Listen to Part 6 of the 6 Things to AVOID before or during your next job interview by Mentor Shelly #np on #SoundCloud

Listen, I know you may be nervous and jittery about your next job interview, especially if it’s for an awesome opportunity you’ve been looking forward to.

Whatever you do, please AVOID these six actions I’m about to discuss…if you have any hope of landing this job or career opportunity.

The first thing to AVOID – Being late.

The second thing to AVOID – Dressing inappropriately.

The third thing to AVOID – Bringing your phone in the interview with the ringer on.

The fourth thing to AVOID – Going to the interview not knowing anything about the company.

The fifth thing to AVOID – Being dismissive or not paying attention to the receptionists or front desk personnel.

This is the 6th and final part of the six part series. You can find the first five parts of the interview series in previous posts on the site, if this is your first time being introduced to the information. So, let’s jump right into this…

Avoid #6 Going to the interview without copies of your resumes, professional references, professional business cards or other relevant career tools.

It’s so important to have your career tools handy, especially during an interview. Keep in mind, the interviewer may not ask for it but if they do…then have them ready! Think of this interview process using your career tools as target practice…the job or career opportunity is the target and each of your career tools (resume, cover letter, thank you letter-post interview, business cards, letters of recommendation) are arrow used to hit the target.

If you don’t have your career tools, your targeted job or career opportunity may eventually slip away. Do you want career opportunities to slip away because you weren’t ready? I think not.

If you’re struggling with how well your career tools are working for you, I recommend checking out the career tools review service to assure your career tools are optimized to help you get the DREAM Career you want!

3-Before your next job interview…AVOID doing these 6 things….

Hey beautiful people! This is the third installment of the interview series.

Listen, I know you may be nervous and jittery about your next job interview, especially if it’s for an awesome opportunity you’ve been looking forward to. Whatever you do, please AVOID these six actions I’m about to discuss…if you have any hope of landing this job or career opportunity.

Avoid #3 – Bringing your mobile telephone interview with the ringtone on. There is nothing more rude to interviewers than having the mobile telephone rings in the middle of an interview. The ringing disrupts the flow of the interview and may cause you to loose the opportunity. It sounds simple…but I’ve seen it happen. If there is a possible chance you cannot place your phone on silent or vibration mode, just leave the phone in the car.

Schedule an interview coaching session to obtain the “industry specific” strategy and tools to DOMINATE in your next interview or if you’re truly motivated and move at your own pace, find this resource helpful.

Avoid #2 – Dressing inappropriately for the interview, even if the interview is not in-person.
I was taking to one of the facilitators in the career workshop I attended about a year ago and she shared how one of her clients was interviewing a candidate through Skype. The candidate apparently asked to be excused for a moment to use the restroom during the interview. What the candidate seemed to forget that he only dressed for the Skype interview from the waist up. The candidate only had his underwear on from the waist down and forgot to close the computer or cover the camera as he went to the bathroom. He practically mooned the interviewers going to the bathroom. Needless to say, this candidate did not get the job opportunity, all because he did not dress properly. It sounds simple, but being aware and taking the appropriate action will always work out better for you in the long run.
